Last Post of 2014

Hello dear readers,

I'm writing this little thing as a memoir to the year 2014, which seems to have whizzed by in a very confusing flash. It's been, for me, a year of ups and downs; trials and triumphs.

My main aim for next year is to be less passive and to really attack things head-on (I'm not talking about people here, I'm not that violent! fear not)... But also not to push myself too hard and to understand that I'm only human, that I have limits; that we all have to be selfish sometimes otherwise we'll be left behind in this crazy, fast world.

I also wanted to say that I'm so thankful for my wonderful family, friends, and you, dear readers. Especially if you've been with me from the very beginning. Hopefully next year I won't be so passive when it comes to blog post-writing either!

All that's left to say is that I hope you have a very happy new year, and that it is filled with love, laughter, luck, and most of all - pizza. (Only joking - not.) (no really I am... Sort of)

Thanks for reading,

See you next year! Bring on 2015.

The (very) happy blogger

Ps: pizza is really great though isn't it?!

Frantic Festivity

Hello dear readers,

How lovely to be reunited with you!! Sorry I've been so absent recently - as expected, the busy Christmas period has hit full-force and I've been engulfed in the middle of a huge mountain of homework, tests, present purchasing, Christmas decorating, present wrapping, meeting up with as many people as possible, and all the usual Christmas frantic factors. Even though they're tiring, I suppose they're what makes this time of year so exciting.

Another little life update is that from 21st-23rd December I was in Berlin with my dearest one, Helen - hopefully I'll have a full post up about it soon - where we went Christmas shopping and famous-sights-visiting. 'Twas absolutely wunderbar (German A Level teachers would be proud).

We're hosting the festivities for 10 people and 2 dogs this year, which should be very busy!! I'd love to hear about your Christmas traditions in the comments.

So, all that's left to say is I hope you all have a very, VERY happy, safe, love-filled, and all-round merry Christmas and that Santa brings you everything you wish for.

Thanks for reading,

The very (festive and) happy blogger

Ps: currently wearing a very garish, bright red, sequin-filled Christmas jumper and I have no shame whatsoever. I feel this is the time of year when fashion rules no longer apply; anyone else agree?? (Or it may just be me being my slightly oblivious-to-conventionality-self - but who wants to follow the crowd anyway?) Therefore, have no shame in whipping out those reindeer/Santa/Christmas pudding (what I've opted for)/whatever other festive things/sequiny jumpers and/or onesies, and feel as festive and gleeful as possible - after all, Christmas only comes round once a year.

1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Hello dear readers,

So, as the title of this post suggests, today marks the 1 year anniversary of my very first blog post! Granted, it wasn't the most exciting piece of writing ever written - it was me being very confused about having to post a link to my Blovlovin' (the link at the top of this blog if you want to check it out!) account; so not incredibly enthralling.

Nethertheless, I feel it's been a good year, and I'm really going to try to write posts more often from now on - so that I have a few more blog-filled years yet to come!

Thanks for reading, and can't wait to share more random bits and bobs with you all in the future.

Exciting Announcement

Hello dear readers,

Today, after an amazing phone call earlier, I can officially announce some very exciting news: I'm going to be a godmother!!

I'm so, so thrilled, especially as the little girl, Millie, who's going to be my goddaughter (eek!!) is from a family which is sort of, well very, intertwined with my own. Let me attempt to explain:

Basically, Millie's mum one of three daughters of one of my mum's oldest friends, who with her brother and parents used to be the neighbours of my mum's family when she was about the same age (ie, very very tiny) as Millie - so we all go way back! Then, two of the three daughters (including the mother of Millie) were my mum's bridesmaids after my mum was bridesmaid to their mum, then Millie's mum is my mum's goddaughter, and I'm HER mum's goddaughter, and now Millie rose is my goddaughter!!

If you grasped any of that hugely complicated explanation, then I commend you.

In short, another chapter is being made in the very complex story which is the relationship between us and these friends - who, in fact, are more like family to us all now.

I can't wait to spoil my new goddaughter, and I'm pretty sure that this isn't the last you'll hear of her either!

Thank you so much for reading,

The very (excited and) happy blogger

PS: hopefully I'll have a few new posts up on the blog this week!

IL PLEUT (extended version)

Hello dear readers,

Yes, I'm fully aware that the title of this post sounds like a pop song - and in fact, this little nugget of excitement gives me great happiness (weird mood alert).

I'm writing to you on this dark and dingy Monday evening to inform you of a VERY - yes, VERY VERY exciting fact.

The fabulous friend who I've known for 12 great years; whom I shared my first 'Il Pleut' Pret ร€ Manger moment with; I can officially now pronounce her name I think: Chloe.

Chloe is a lovely, lively and - (darn I've run out of similar words) - girl, who is now *much joy & general jubiliation* walking along much-enjoyed route embarked on already by yours truly: [essentially] she's started a blog.

It would mean the absolute galaxy ft comet with scientific equipment (get it?!) to me if you could check out her blog. It's called 'On Cloud Chloe', which, believe me, is indeed a wondrous cloud to be on. Here's the link:

So please, next time you have a spare moment (look at it NOW, I demand - I mean, no pressure or anything), please wend your way to the kingdom/reputable cloud of Chloe - and experience a wonderful world of music, fantastic funniness, and general amazingness (sorry grammar) which will, I'm sure, therefore ensue (grammar likes me again now).

How very loquacious I am today! (I dare you to use this word in your day-to-day vocab, it's fab)

Thank you for reading, and PLEASE look at her blog - be sure to expect extraordinary things - and I will love you forever (I already do, naturally - I'm talking about an even longer forever, if that's even possible),

Taking Time to Relax

Hello dear readers,

I worry that, recently, a lack of posts on this blog has become the norm, and I'm so sorry about that (many sad faces and tears).

I'm currently suffering because I wrote out this whole post, and was really proud of it, then promptly managed to delete it all. Great. I'll attempt to re-create it now:

I do actually have a reason for my recent absence, and it's that I've been incredibly busy. But it's not even that I've had loads of things going on, it's more to do with the amount of work I've had to complete.

In the last few weeks, it feels like I literally haven't stopped working, and I've been trying as hard as I can (sounds cheesy, but it's true!!) You see, I do four (five if you include critical thinking) essay subjects for A-Level (last two years of high school for any confused non-UK dwellers), which is kind of exhausting. Don't get me wrong, I love my school and my subjects, but when you feel obliged to do as much extra reading as I do, it can result in you feeling that your work life never ends. As though there's always something else you can do; as though every second of study missed is a mark lost on your final exam. Of course, this isn't true, and I need to get out of this mindset. And I'm not the only one.

I'm sure that there are so many others who feel this way - those at school, college, uni, work, and any situation which makes you feel that you're being repeatedly drowned in a sea of endless information and late nights.

But surely this isn't the way our lives should be lived? Surely we should be spending our time talking and spending time with each other; relaxing and letting the hours drift by in content, rather than in stress?

Therefore, do whatever makes you feel good - and not the staying late at the office kind of good, the truly good good.
Whether it's reading, taekwondo, video games or curling up on the sofa to the beautiful voice of Ed Sheeran (it really is, isn't it?!), please relax whenever you can.

Personally, today is my day off. The first I've had in what feels like a long time. I'm spending it by going to my school Christmas fair and seeing people I haven't seen for a while, eating what feels like my entire body weight in fudge, reading part of a really long book called 'The Goldfinch' (which I thoroughly recommend) and seeing the new Benedict Cumberbatch film with my parents later (if any of you have already watched it, please comment below - I'd love to know your opinion!)

Yes, I have to do work tomorrow.  But it will be so much easier to bear when I've had a day to recuperate. I may even enjoy it!

So next time you feel weighed down by an indescribably heavy burden which some refer to rather too generously as a 'work life', take time to put your feet up for a day or so - or even a few hours - and it will do you the world of (a really good) good.

Thanks for reading (hopefully I won't delete the post again this time),

The (very) happy blogger

Ps: I've been thinking about new, interesting posts recently, and so I'll try to have them up as soon as possible!

Sheeran & Stevie

Hello dear readers,

Ginger, Guitars, and Graham the Cat - Guess Who?!

Well, a few weeks ago (this provokes more apologies for my lateness - sorry), I went to see the utter musical king that is the Sheeran himself! And, good golly, was he good.

It was Monday, 13th October to be precise. I met my friend at the train station and together, we travelled up to the O2 arena in London. It was literally packed - thousands of people - and who comes to sit a couple of rows behind us, but STEVIE from Made in Chelsea. Our excitement was, understandably, um, very big. I have to admit, I did spend a considerable portion of the concert looking behind me to check that it was actually him. And it was. Gah.

But anyway, back to dear Edward. His supporting act was a great guy (he has a band but I think it's supposed to be just him as the act?! Sorry I'm not entirely sure) called Saint Raymond. He was very good, but I have to be honest, I was a bit more focused on the fact that I was an emotional wreck in my Stevie excitement and Sheeran anticipation (all mixed in together).

When the wondrous ginger ninja himself eventually stepped out on stage, it was as I'd expected; perhaps even better. The huge stage contained only him, a guitar, and a loo pedal or two. And that's how it should be.

(you can see how excited I was)

To be honest, I think that's the main reason why I love his music so much - because it's not over-complicated or high-tech, it's simply amazing music played and sung by a guy who looks like he's just popped to the shops - standing there with messy, ruffled ginger hair, wearing a T-shirt and jeans.

Ed's songs just blow my mind - his lyrics are so beautiful that three people were proposed to during the concert, and the melodies are so catchy that you wonder why they've never been used before.

A great moment of the concert was during the song Tenerife Sea, where everyone held up their phones, and the huge O2 was lit up with thousands of gleaming lights, which swayed with the music. These are a few slightly dodgy photos, which don't do it justice, but ah well.

My favourite song of all time, though, has to be The A Team. Naturally, he did it as his penultimate song. Boy, did I love it. From the first chord, I was in tears, and after previously having assured myself that I'd sing all the words out loud and clear, I was unable to even muster a sentence because I was a complete, blubbering wreck. I managed to cheer up a bit when he did Sing, but the steady stream of mascara down my cheeks said otherwise.

When we were leaving the arena, we heard a few screams - then I remembered who had been sitting near us. Stevie had completely failed in his efforts to hide himself with his jacket hood - already several girls had crowded around him, and you could tell that the number would grow soon.

But, dear readers, I'm happy to announce that... I got a photo with him!! (Please see below)

He was so lovely, and was nice enough to point out that the initial photo we got was unsuccessful as he noticed that my mum had her finger over the lens (technology and parents - they never go together, eh?!) ps, the brunettes in the photo are my friend and I, but I have absolutely no idea who the blonde girl is - she was a very excited Stevie megafan who seemed very close to complete combustion, and randomly posed for a photo with us in her excitement...

Altogether, it was quite an eventful evening.

Thanks for reading!!

I'm a bad person

Hello dear readers,

Where do I start?

What a cheek I've been - I mean, I've utterly neglected this blog, and, sadly, you, for the past month or so and this is awful - and I'm incredibly sorry. How can I ever repay you?!

How about some new posts... *much cheering & rapturous applause*

Well, today is November 1st. Yesterday was Hallowe'en. Tomorrow is... November 2nd (I'm on a roll)...

So I was thinking - November isn't really a very exciting month (well, not if you're in the UK at least - we don't have Thanksgiving *sad face*) for most of us, so how about I attempt to liven it up by doing as many posts as possible!!

There really is no excuse for my recent absence, especially as tomorrow is the last day of a two week half term and I haven't done a single post during all this time. Too busy having fun with my many essays... *much sarcasm*

But in all seriousness, I will try to do as much as I can on this blog in the next month, as I feel I definitely owe it to all of you.

Have a fabulous (rest of your) weekend.

Thanks for putting up with my awful blogger-ness.

Monday Moans - IL PLEUT

Hello dear readers,

As I hope you're aware (if not then please browse after reading this post), my last post centred heavily around the British themes of tea, cake, and slightly dodgy (we like to think it's fabulous) humour. But as I'm a patriotic sort, let's expand on this. What else is fundamentally British, I hear you ask? Well, I answer: bad weather.

It seems that the sky has been just chilling (in a cool Brian-from-the-Money-Supermarket-adverts way rather than a cold Elsa Sven Christoff Olaf way) recently, and has subsequently bottled up all of its anger and fury and all other related weather imagery. However, all of this bottled-up-whatnot needs to be let out eventually;  so today Mr Blue Sky turned into Mr Not So Blue Sky, and decided to let out seemingly one months' worth of rain in one day. *much cheering and general joyfulness*

You may say, why am I complaining when I'm British, and so haven't I got used to it by now? Well, the issue is (and I'm sure many would agree with me): I got rather more used to it being dry in recent months; so torrential rain was a bit of a shock to the system.

I have a dear friend (hiya hello hi) who always walks with me to get lunch every Monday: it's our regular Pret Monday Excursion to battle the Monday Moans.

But, but but: as I'm sure you can imagine, that journey was a little bit more difficult today... Let me give you a few reasons:

1. As soon as we stepped out from the cosy, comforting warmth of college life, we entered into the blustery gale-force winds of a cold October day only to realise pretty soon that my friend's umbrella was... Well, faulty. Even though mine could be considered a sturdy brolly (umbrella, for all those unaccustomed to random English-isms), it was still no match for the sky's tears (how poetic) and so we both suffered with the umbrella-turning-inside-out situation as well as being blown and subsequently dragged halfway across the town.

2. This next one wasn't actually too bad (just trying to tell the story chronologically hehe), well - 'twas indeed wondrous - when we got to Pret, aforementioned dear friend suggested us both buying warm toasties, and golly, were they amazing. *I had mozzarella, tomato and pesto for any interested!

3. Walking back up to school was interesting: it mainly mirrored the walk down - thereby featuring many intense confabulations (great word, please do look up) regarding the exciting nature of how this blog can be translated into Latin (I know right, so exhilarating!!) For the most part, we were blissfully unaware of how there was a guy behind us, sniggering under his breath the whole way (blame his overhearing us on the wind - it was so strong you had to literally shout to have a decent conversation).

4. Time to shout more profanities at the sky such as "I hate you England" (statement from said dear friend) and "oh to have a faulty umbrella" (yours truly).

5. Thinking we were safe, we kind of jogged (I know, what is this) the last few metres to the sixth form common room. 5, 4, 3, 2 - PLONK. My paper Pret bag was so wet it had exploded; straw, napkins, fork (pls don't ask why I felt the need to have a fork for a toastie, I don't know either), drink, crisps, beloved toastie, and random paper fragments, all littered the ground. In our panic to pick it all up, my friend managed to drop her wallet, which caused another panic a few minutes later; just after her own bag had done exactly the same thing.

6. We walked into the common room breathless, drenched, windswept, freezing, and, most importantly, hungry. Needless to say, the luckily-still-warm toasties were much enjoyed!

So, there you have it. The dramatically told (naturally) story of my lunchtime. Hope it was thoroughly enjoyable for you (though nothing could be as enjoyable as a Pret toastie - please try if you haven't already experienced the wonders).

Until next time,

The (very exasperated and) happy blogger

Ps: happy October! Hope it's a great one for you

My Guilty Pleasure (and Everyone Else in Britain's)

Hello dear readers,

May I present to you a post entirely dedicated to that wonder of wonders; that programme of programmes: the Great British Bake-Off. If you, like me, watch this religiously every week and enjoy every single mouth-watering morsel, then please proceed to be my buddy. If not, or if, heaven forbid, you haven't even HEARD of it, well... Let me say to you, yes you, kindly sir or madam I say to you, yes that's you: please... do watch. Then you'll understand our obsession with it. Then therefore, thereby, forthwith, you can be my buddy. Yay!

Moving on... It may just be a stereotype, but - in fact, it IS a stereotype, that - Britain is associated with tea. Tea in the morning, tea in the afternoon, tea in the later hours (if you're feeling particularly daring). Just tea, tea, and yep - you guessed it - tea. BUT - and this is a very big but indeed - tea cannot go unaccompanied. Oh no, one must pair tea with one of the greatest partners-in-crime of all: cake. And this is where Bake-Off fits in.

Fun fact: apparently the National Grid has noticed that energy usage increases very suddenly around 8pm on Wednesdays. And the usage from each user (of electricity that is, naughty!) amounts to how much usage you'd need to boil a kettle. Essentially, most of Britain's inhabitants agree that the age-old relationship between cake and tea should constantly be re-kindled.

So now we've established Britain's association with tea, what next, you ask? Well, dear reader, I answer: British humour. Another age-old tradition. And that's where these two lovely ladies fit in:

Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins are honestly one of the highlights of my week. The dymanic duo, the punny pair - whatever you wish to call them, they're brilliant in my opinion. Recently, they've been criticized for being too smutty. Personally I think this is ridiculous, as what kind of jokes do you expect them to make when their job is to be funny and entertain whilst presenting a programme where there are frequent soggy bottoms? I rest my (very sugary) case.

Talking of dynamic duos, another worthy pair is these two:

*drum roll pls*

May I present to you (this is the second time I've used that phrase, I must be feeling particularly dramatic this evening) the wonderful king of bread and the delightful overall queen of baking, fashion, and everything. Paul Hollywood may have his rough edges, but we all know he's secretly all soft and squishy and nice on the inside (punny baking pun, thank you, thank you). As for Mary, well - another fun fact, which I think shows her amazing influence over people despite being the grand old age of 80 this year (so is my grandma actually - as of Friday - so yay to that) is that a jacket she recently wore in an episode sold out within half an hour on the shop's website. She is an absolute style icon. And she bakes great biscuits too - what more could you want?!

But hang on, let's not forget some very important people here: the contestants. Some of my favourites have been John (who won a couple of series back), Norman (I mean, how could you not adore him), Martha (unfortunately *SPOILER ALERT* she went out this week, but it's amazing how she got to the quarter finals aged only 17), and so many others who have all outdone themselves in the baking department. The irony is that I can't bake for my life, so I guess it's natural in a way for me to extra-admire all of the contestants, who have to be so talented at baking to even get on the show in the first place.

The bake-off family (not forgetting the hilarious Jo Brand, who does the spin-off programme 'An Extra Slice') is just fabulous - there's no other word for it. I think it's wonderful how it's such a popular programme when all it really is is good old baking puns, many soggy bottoms, and a lot of amazing concoctions on the side. The nation has truly been betwitched the by the power of... Cake.

So now you're all probably thinking, what's my opinion on who's going to win? Well, to your thoughting thinks I do say: I have no idea.

Hmm... Maybe I do.

But that would be telling!

I hope that if you haven't already been immersed in the world of Bake-Off, that you do soon. After all, it's great for the soul (although not the stomach - I find it makes me incredibly hungry and, naturally I must fulfil this hunger with the most unhealthy thing I can lay my hands on... Ah well)!

Thanks for reading,

Monday Moans - Bathrooms

Hello dear readers,

Firstly, I'd like to congratulate Scotland on making the right decision - well done, and I'm sure that we'll all benefit from it.

Secondly, this is my first proper Monday Moan - how exciting!

Thirdly, you're probably thinking that this particular post, however, has a very odd title. Let me expand...

Ok, so picture this: you're at an event: say, the cinema, a theatre, an airport, or something. Nature calls, so of course you head towards the right toilet according to gender (or the wrong one, if you're having one of those days). When you enter the bathroom - how quickly you do this depends on how long the undoubtedly extensive queue is - you're usually met with the awkward issue of awkward doors: is there a person in this one, or does it just look closed? Is the person in front of me waiting in the line or just waiting around for a friend or no particular reason at all? And does all this pondering make me look weird? So you naturally walk towards said problematic door, and if you're in luck, then you proceed.

On a good day, this should be the easiest part of the whole tricky process. But oh, if the various bathroom tables have been turned against you, then you're left with one of the world's greatest dilemmas: the lack of toilet paper. If you're female, you've most likely gone to the loo with a friend, or even a sizeable group, and so you may be lucky enough to be able to do the psst-please-pass-me-some-under-the-cubicle-gap trick, but if not, then oh, how one suffers. Especially if you hadn't noticed as soon as you came in, thereby leaving yourself in a rather difficult and unsanitary situation.

Well, if you've managed to deal with this issue before, I commend you.

Now, having completed said issue management, you now must actually flush the toilet. But with new obsessions over hygene, you may encounter the dreaded automatic flush, and the horrors which therefore ensue. Let me share a lovely anecdote: my first impressions of America (on another note, as much as I love the country itself, its cubicles perplex me - the gaps between the cubicle doors, ceiling, and floors are so sizeable that I wouldn't be surprised if most Americans are just used to seeing each other on the loo - but maybe I'm just being very fussy and Surrey-esque) over summer involved an automatic flush, as the toilets at Atlanta airport were fortunate enough to have them. Yes, they're fast, they're clean; all that is very well. But what if you're having a deep thinking session with yourself? Or checking up on the networks of socialness? What if, quite simply, you're not done yet? But oh no, said flush does not comply with your wishes, and so it very suddenly flushes, rudely catching you unawares, and leaves you wondering what just exploded behind you before realizing that this is not a mine or incoming meteorite, it is simply (well, not really that simply) an automatic flush. Hmpf. Now you're all flustered, getting out of the almost certainly claustrophobic cubicle will add yet another issue to your already commendable list of issues.

In a state of high frustration, you now proceed to the sinks. This is where the real problems start.

Call me old fashioned, but when did washing your hands get so complicated? I get how it's more hygienic to be automatic and sense when hands approach instead of spreading loads of germs, but some of these supposedly helpful taps don't turn off for ages. Surely that's bad for the environment? Then others don't run for long enough, and you constantly have to thrust your hands back under them until it looks like you're trying to complete a particularly difficult move of the foxtrot using only your fingers. Next, the dreaded soap dispensers. I like to think of these as people.

In some instances, you have the indecisive people: "I may give you some soap... But I may wait for a few minutes, just until you're walking off then I'll relinquish a few squirts... In fact, I may time it so that there's just enough seconds for everyone to realise it's basically your fault that the entire sink area is now drowning in disenfectant-smelling foam". As you can see, this crowd can be pretty mischievous.

On the other hand, one can also encounter the more laid-back people: "I'm quite laid-back actually,  yes, I like to consider myself vintage as I have one of those dispensers which you pull forwards, but I like to laugh at how people frown and squint over where they place their hand to collect my soap - when I decide to release it of course". In short, they're all spiteful, indecisive, malicious things.

What next? You face the no-win challenge of hand drying. You either have your hands sucked into a monstrous monstrosity of a machine which seems intent on pulling the very skin off your bones, or you're faced with a feeble mouse of a dryer which leaves you with no option but to wipe your hands on your lower region of clothes, hoping desperately that no awkward wet patches will show up on your outfit and look thoroughly suspicious. Overall, bathrooms seem to be full of extremes, and no reasonable in-betweens (unintended rhyme).

Phew, you're done! Now all that's left to do is to make a run for the exit without forgetting your handbag, and/ or knocking someone over in your frantic pursuit of freedom.

So there it is! My very long-winded, long-awaited, much moany, moan. Featuring the many charms of the humble bathroom.

Thanks for reading,

A Much-Needed Catch-Up

Hello dear readers,

Oh how I've missed this!

Understandably, you'll all be thinking either, "oh God she's back again" or "what took her so long" (don't worry, I know that you're all far too kind and wonderful to be this abrupt).

Well, dear readers, my excuse for this prolonged absence is quite simply my settling into sixth form, which has actually taken longer than I thought.

At first, I didn't really know what to think, as everything was so new yet fabricated out of what we were used to. Let me explain... I don't know if you remember, but I think I explained before that the 6th form/ college part of my school is in a different building, which is odd as I rarely go in the senior school one anymore; that will take some getting used to!

Essentially, I'm not good with change. Change of work amounts (gah), change of uniform (none now - woohay! - although outfit choices have made me late on several mornings), change of people (I talked about this quite a lot in my last post - although the wondrous, amazing, fabulous and all-round good news is that one of my best friends came back to school on Monday, after she changed her mind about college choices post a week and a bit of another one).

Overall, I'm really happy though. The teacher-student relationship is so much more informal now, and I feel like I can talk to many different members of the year who I didn't really get to see that much before, and having new girls is exciting too. So much change.

On the subject of change, I'm sure you're all well aware of what went on today. And if you're not, then... Well...

I never intended this blog to be a political blog as I wanted to keep it a bit lighter than that. However, I think I'm going to gently express my opinion by saying that I've never found this song more appropriate:

And I'll leave it at that. Apart from saying how scary it is that when I wake up tomorrow, I, and all the millions who live in the UK, will see things differently, no matter the result of the vote. If it is a yes, then I worry about how something we can't (not if you're not I'm Scotland anyway) control, will impact the lives of generations to come (again, I reiterate that this is only my opinion, and I don't want to be politics-y for too long!) And if it's a no, I still don't think that this whole thing will be laid to rest, so it won't be the end of it all either way you look at it. I only wish that as many people as possible will be happy tomorrow. Or even if they're not necessarily pleased, then at least satisfied, or prepared to put up with the result. At the end of the day, everyone has a different opinion on the situation, and they're more than entitled to have that.

Anyway, I better get some sleep now, as not only is tomorrow a big day for Great Britain, it's also a big day for my grandma. It will be her 80th birthday, and I hope that it will be as enjoyable as possible for her.

Night night, and I hope that you're all enjoying life at the moment too.

Thank you for reading,

The very (slightly nervous as I feel too helpless meh and) happy blogger

Ps: hopefully I can get back into good habits soon and have a more regular blog schedule!! Well, at least I've suggested it now... Let's see if I carry it out... Hmmmm...

Tuesday Thoughts

Hello dear readers,

So, tomorrow I start sixth form (last two years of high school if you're not from the  UK!), which I always saw as inexpressibly old when I was younger - and now it's a reality.

I've got all the stationery and outfit (how am I going to do these every morning?!) planned and ready for the big day, but I still feel unprepared for what's to come.

It's quite a big change - both academically and physically - the Sixth Form at my school is set apart from the rest of the school; in a separate building (although on a positive note, the common room has a toaster, kettle and microwave - woohoo!)

But the biggest change for me won't be location, uniform, subjects, or work - it's the change in the people around me. My three closest friends are all leaving, and I'm excited for them in all their new pursuits and know that I'll still see them as much as possible, but it makes me also feel slightly empty - small, seemingly unnecessary things like who will I walk to assembly with, or who will I sit next to at lunch, are just pestering me constantly. Of course, there are so many other wonderful people in my year and I'm sure that existing friendships will grow, and new ones will form with people I've never even properly talked to. It's almost certain that when I'm all settled and into the swing of things, I'll feel a lot better - and the same goes to anyone else feeling this way too, as I'm sure we're all a bit nervous!

But for now, I think a face mask session is required (for some reason, just being at school gives me spots!), paired with an early night - one of my three main sixth form goals is to go to sleep earlier (as well as not be late for school, but I'm not so sure that that one will happen!)

If it's alright, I may not write another post for a few days, as I kind of just want to concentrate on settling in to Lower Sixth Life (necessary capital letter there).

So I bid you all farewell, and good luck to anyone starting something new this week - I know you'll be absolutely fine!

Now for an unusual ending for my blog posts - a quote from the amazing Mahatma Gandhi:

Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.

Monday Moans

Hello dear readers,

Today, or rather, this evening, I had my belated birthday party. I wanted it also to be a class thing; so the members of my old class (apart from three sadly) turned up to celebrate our last big moment together. It was so lovely to spend time with them all, especially as we spent the evening eating loads of pizza and dancing to some old classics.

This isn't a moan, I know, but that's because I have nothing to moan about!!

#BLAUGUST - Day 31 - Something New/ANNOUNCEMENT

Hello dear readers,

1. I'd like to apologise about how scary the 'announcement' bit of this post's title is - I just wanted to make it stand out more!

2. Yes, today we came home and luckily there were no hitches apart from us getting to the airport too early - I actually wrote most of this whilst waiting for two hours (meh) for the check-in desks to open!

3. As you can probably tell, I have an announcement.

Tomorrow is September; thereby making today the last day of #BLAUGUST. Aw, thank you for saying that you'll miss it! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I will too. I've enjoyed doing it (almost as much as I enjoyed the fact that I actually completed it woo!) and so my announcement focuses on continuing to daily blog, but in a slightly more exciting way. I've been pondering this for quite a while...

I know that quite a few bloggers/vloggers use the technique of themes: generally a theme for each day of the week, so they know roughly what to write/talk about. But I'd like to put my own twist on it; with slightly different themes, covering a range of topics - mainly because I still have no idea what 'type' I can classify this blog as being.

So *drum roll pls* my themes for each day of the week would probably (please note the word 'probably' - they're not set in stone yet!) be:

. Monday Moans (because this naturally goes with the title of being a 'very happy blogger'... Hehe)

. Tuesday treats (not good I know, this is the one which is giving me the most grief - if you have any suggestions please comment them below!)

. Wednesday Wears/Randoms (I was going to say 'wandoms' but decided against it due to the fact that I want to clarify that I'm over the age of 5) - 'wears' being any outfit ideas I may have or clothes hauls/advice/etc, and 'Randoms' being, well, random! (I'll switch between the two)

. Thursday Thoughts/Throwbacks

. Friday Favourites (featuring beauty/any type of products, apps, games, music, food, and films or TV programmes)

As for the weekend, I'm not sure whether I'm going to post anything... I shall have a think; but currently I'm considering that this will be my in-advance post-planning and maybe even writing time, as I'm not sure how much free time I'll have during sixth form for the next two years.

But I think that's about all for now!

By the way, I go back to school on Wednesday *cry* - this summer went SO quickly!! If you're going back to work/school soon or already have, I'm sure you'll feel my current feels.

Hope you're all feeling fabulous,

The (very excited as have finally got this off my chest and have been tempted to blurt it out for ages and) happy blogger

#BLAUGUST - Day 30 - A Happy Ending

Hello dear readers,

We arrived here in the afternoon today. But where is here, you ask? Well, basically because of local airports and a lack of flights at decent times (we weren't prepared to get up at some unsightly hour just to get on a one hour plane journey!), we couldn't get one today, so we're spending an extra day in France and leaving tomorrow evening. Therefore we're currently in the mountains, somewhere near Grenoble, and the scenery is beautiful:

Literally feels like the Von Trapp family will walk up to us at any moment!

The hotel we're staying in is only a small one, and is quite eccentric; feauturing some wondrously floral tablecloths and blankets, together with fabulous translation mistakes on some signs such as "please to use", "please notch this box", and "so we will be pleasant for the other people" - oh the joys of google translate!! It's all very sweet though.

Anyway, if you follow my twitter, (@thevhappyblogr) you may have noticed that I hinted earlier about a story feauturing certain dogs. Well, this morning my mum woke me up to tell me that the male dog had returned, but without little Athena (back track if you've forgotten: she's the one who spent the day with us), which was slightly worrying... Three of the family , including me, spent the early morning (meh) calling out her name; desperately hoping that she wasn't injured and/or hadn't run into the hunters in the woods, who seemed to spend the whole of last night shooting, and so a stray dog may have appeared to them as any other animal...

Eventually, we called up Athena's owner, who spoke to his neighbour (the owner of the male dog) to tell them that he was here. The male dog's owner came right away, and told us his dog's name was Jules - and Jules was so happy to see him it was adorable. But just as importantly, he told us that Athena had only just found her way home, after three days lost in the woods. So they're both safe, and there couldn't have been a better ending to the trip.

#BLAUGUST - Day 29 - So Much Is Happening

Hello dear readers,

I'm sorry, this isn't going to be a long 'un - just a quick update on life!! (By the way, I never ask how you all are, so please comment how you're feeling etc in the comments below.

We're leaving tomorrow morning; so I've spent the latter part of today packing and tidying up - I never knew how much I could spread out my belongings in a building... We're driving farther north and staying in a more mountainous part of France; then we fly home on Sunday evening.

This morning wasn't too great for me - I won't go into details; we all have bad days - and last night wasn't fabulous either, especially not in terms of sleep. Ah well.

By the way, the two dogs who were with us last night apparently did stay there, but when my aunt and uncle went out early this morning I think they thought that we were all leaving them, so by the time the rest of us had got up, they'd gone. It's such a shame - I hope they've been OK (it was slightly cooler today so that's good for them); especially as Athena's owner did turn up this morning to pick them up, and I had to explain in my not-so-good-as-who-remembers-education-during-summer French that they'd disappeared. Hopefully they'll find their own way home...

Anyway, I hope that (if you're British and have similar holiday times to me) you're having a great last few days of summer, and if you're already back at school/work, I hope that's not too bad either.

#BLAUGUST - Day 28 - A Birthday Surprise

Hello dear readers,

Today is my mother's birthday, wahooy! I hope she's had a great day. The only odd occurrence we've had today has something to do with dogs. Well, a lot to do with dogs.

So I accidentally slept in (teenager) and whilst having my unsuitably warm, late breakfast of porridge, my aunt related to me how two dogs had turned up that morning when I was still asleep, seemingly out of nowhere; then disappeared again.

I didn't think any more of it (except when I saw a little memento of their visit that they'd left on the patio!) until we'd all had a sunbathing session, when I caught sight of - yep, you guessed it - one of the   dogs from earlier! Reading her name tag, we discovered that she was called Athena and had two contact numbers. After calling both several times to no avail, we kind of just became friends with her.

She's lovely - I'm not sure what breed, but she's got cute pointy ears, long legs, and big black patches on white fur; she's so friendly and docile - she just spent the day lying in the shade, and we kept her happy with lots of water and a bit of meat.

But the real problem was, why weren't her owners answering the phone or calling us back? who were they? how long had poor little Athena been wandering around in the forest, and how did she become separated from her friend, the other dog?

Well, that last question could be answered by the fact that she was wet when she came up to us - my mum's theory (by the way, she seemed to really enjoy spending her birthday with canine company!) is that someone saw the two dogs approaching and sprayed them with a hose, thinking they were strays; the two ran away in different directions.

We're staying in a villa owned by a British family, but there's a French lady who comes to look after the house, and she told us that she recognised Athena, and that this wasn't the first time it had happened. The male dog who was with her before was her next door neighbour, and he likes to go exploring - but she always follows! So they'd both been traipsing through the forest for a day, which is why she looked so thin and tired when we found her. Luckily, we're all strong dog-lovers (or any animal-lovers really!) and so we looked after her.

We came back from my mum's birthday dinner to find Athena where we'd left her - she was so happy to see us, it was adorable - but this time, she wasn't alone! The aforementioned male dog had found her again. He was a little tense and protective of her at first, but when we saw that we weren't going to hurt him, or her, he settled down.

Now as I write this, I believe they're both outside the house, hopefully sleeping.

I really hope that their owners will come and collect them tomorrow morning - they're truly lovely dogs and it makes me sad to think that they're not being looked after properly... But I assure you that we and the French lady will do all we can to make sure they're safe.

#BLAUGUST - Day 27 - Eyebrow Evolution

Hello dear readers,

So earlier today (ps we had a powercut for the whole of last night which was both exciting and annoying) I was plucking my eyebrows (please bare with, this has a point) and I started thinking about how much they've changed over the years, and how that's fundamentally been all my fault, and sometimes not in a good way!

My eyebrows used to be, well, an eyebrow - I inherited my monobrow from my dad. Then, probably about this time of year but in 2011, I decided that I wanted to make them a bit neater. Not knowing how to do this - all I knew was that I wanted nice eyebrows 'like all the models had' (always a big mistake, please don't follow this phrase for any part of your body) and so I took to hand the first sharp thing I could think of, a razor - next mistake.

Anyway, my eyebrows went from a reasonable neat line, to the shortest, tiniest little slug-like things perching on my forehead. So bad.

Essentially, my message here is: please be happy with your body and all its eccentricities, even if you really don't like them, as you're perfect how you are, and if your tampering with that thing goes wrong, then it's so clear to everyone, especially you, and you'll wish you'd never done it.

Here's a picture from when my brows started to grow back, a little while after I'd had an emotional chat with my mum and she'd told me pretty much all of the above. Mothers are always fab for advice!

I hid the razor away and let my brows grow back, then my mum bought me a great Model's Own pair of tweezers, and they've been fine ever since.

Sorry I can't do this now as lack of time, but if you want, I could do a post on how to pluck them and shape them in the future? I'd be happy too, as it would have saved me more than a year of stress if I'd seen something like that at the time!

Thank you for reading,

#BLAUGUST - Day 26 - Marchรฉ Madness

Hello dear readers,

So I had an exciting morning today at the local Lorgues marchรฉ, where there were so many people which was really surprising actually (I guess in Britain not so many people turn up to a small village market!) but not surprising in some ways because the market was amazing and had such a big variety and gah (long sentence exhaustion).

Here are some photos:

Les tomates (edited version on Instagram!)

Les legumes, aka yum - although temperamental sometimes, refer to #blaugust post number 8 for an embarrassing story regarding that!

I loved the look of the prickly ones in the middle (if anyone knows what they're called please tell me below!)

Lorgues is so pretty and has so much character - it's just the look which I completely associate with the south of France & Provence.

As well as vegetables, there were also clothes, jewellery, sweets, hand-made tablecloths and many other food items at the market - if you ever have a chance to go to one, please do.

I dread to think how long this will take to post with bad wifi!!

Sorry about how my posts aren't great at the moment - it's just I've got a plan for future ones which I'm saving up till September, so please just hold tight for that!

#BLAUGUST - Day 25 - Travel Bucket List

Hello dear readers,

So I'm currently on holiday, and I really love and appreciate the fact that I am, but whilst I was sunbathing earlier, I got thinking (dangerous, I know). I thought that this is a great trip so far, but where else would I like to visit?

So, here's my little list:

1. Hawaii (specifically: Maui and the amazing waterfall there, and the Kauai Waimea Canyon - I've been researching I know - bit desperate I am)

2. To be honest, just the Caribbean in general would be great!

3. South America - definitely Brazil - I'd love love LOVE to traipse through the Amazon Rainforest (despite the bugs) and try to help stop deforestation (it's such a massive problem there) and see all the amazing animals in their natural habitats ๐Ÿ’

4. Africa, just Africa... *romantic sigh*

5. New Zealand - the scenery looks amazing

I'd also like to go to Indonesia, Nepal, China, India, Cambodia, Japan, Iceland, the Antarctic (the list goes on)... So you see I have a problem! (I haven't even been to Scotland or Ireland which is so shocking)

But really, I'm sure everyone just wants to visit as many places as possible, and personally I'd love to explore every corner of the earth, but that may be a little tricky!

Where would you like to visit (and why)? Please comment below!

#BLAUGUST - Day 24 - Lorgues

Hello dear readers,

Today has been so good. I got up late (teenager), had a leisurely breakfast of a croissant and orange juice (France) and lay outside for ages getting burnt/tanned - more burnt (sun) - whilst reading my new book, Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. I'm really enjoying it so far - it's a sort of sequel to Jane Eyre so that's not really surprising!! (I have to read them both for A levels next year)

Some photos of the house:

I'm sure more will be up on my Instagram pretty soon! (@matiwarner)

Then, in the evening, the whole family (me, my parents, my auntie & uncle and my grandparents) watched Frozen together, and it got me thinking that it's such a universal film - it's liked and appreciated by people of all ages and backgrounds, which is so lovely. I adore it (you can probably tell).

Hope you enjoyed my not-very-interesting-but-ah-well round up of my day!! I'll hopefully provide a slightly more entertaining one tomorrow.

Ps: I'm aware that this is posted late and I'm very sorry, but the internet connection here hasn't been great!

#BLAUGUST - Day 23 - On The Road

Hello dear readers,

We've arrived at the villa in the south of France, hooray! It's got so much character - it's absolutely gorgeous (will show photos some time soon) - but we had a bit of a bad journey getting here...

Our flight landed successfully, if a little bumpily/turbulancily (new words) on time late this morning, then after quite a long wait for the hire car we were finally on the road. But, whilst my mum was grappling with the complicated gears and steering, as well as having to drive on the opposite side of the road to usual, we realised that we'd left our good south of France map at home... So a very sensitive SatNav (we've christened her Christine) was teamed up with a not-so-good map from a petrol station and soon enough, we were fully on our way.

Or were we?

Without having to go into too many details of all of our woes along the way, a journey which my dad had predicted to be about 3 hours long ended up taking 7 1/2 hours. 7 1/2. 7 1/2.

Just let that sink in...

Therefore, my accomplishments today include having eaten almost a whole (large) packet of Tangfastics by myself, watching the entirety of Mean Girls (again), and finishing Jane Eyre (genuine accomplishment for once woop!!) and enjoying myself far too much when having an amazing, makeshift midnight supper of tea and pizza just after we'd arrived here, in the dark.

Even though this journey wasn't quite as smooth as hoped - due mainly to Saturday evening traffic and us getting frequently confused and lost... Oh, and some "marital debates" as I call them, between my parents, due to one favouring the good old art of map-reading, and the other being slightly more accepting of technology. Parents, eh?!

Thanks very much for reading,

#BLAUGUST - Day 22 - My Favourite Place

Hello dear readers,

So tomorrow I leave to go to France with the whole of my family, and I'm already feeling nostalgic and home sick! Also I'm sort of sad about the fact that we can't bring our dog Brownie with us (aka my bestest pal)... I sound so not adventurous I know, whoopsies - this isn't normally the case - but I'm having a sentimental moment, please bare with! Therefore I'm going to share some photos of the woods near to where I live:

Isn't it beautiful?!

I'm half sharing these photos to show you, and half because they make me remember where home is, and why I really love it.

I can get pretty homesick when I'm away - this can definitely be increased if I listen to 'I vow to thee my country'... #patrioticorwhat

Do any of you know what I'm talking about? I mean, it's great to travel, to explore, and to be away for a bit, but I love having a base - somewhere stable and comfortable; the favourite place to be - home.

After all, there's no place like it (well said Dorothy).

Leaving you with that little message, I thank you very much for reading.

#BLAUGUST - Day 21 - An Emotional Day

Hello dear readers,

So today's post won't be too long - sorry - as I really only have one thing to say: I'm really happy with how exam results went, and I hope all of you are too.

It's very daunting to go up and collect the dreaded envelope, but if it holds good news it's such a lovely sight to see how it cheers up so many people, not only you.

The only downside is that I woke up with a really painful upper back - leaving my movement pretty restricted - so I celebrated by eating a ton of Ben & Jerry's ice cream and watching Miranda. So not too bad at all!

#BLAUGUST - Day 20 - Exam Results

Hello dear readers,

Tomorrow is a day that I, and thousands of other teenagers across the UK, have been dreading all year: GCSE results day. The day when we see whether all our hard work throughout the two years has actually paid off.

But do you know what stresses me out the most of all of this? It's that people will only really think someone's grades are the best possible ones if they're all A*. And this mindset is ridiculous.

No one is good at everything; therefore it's truly rare that someone can excel in all school subjects. All I'm saying is that, if you're reading this and are facing results tomorrow, or in the future, please don't worry. Everyone is good at something. Also, these won't truly matter that much in a few years; then the next ones won't matter that much a few years after them; then the whole world will open up to us, and we'll see the things that truly matter: being a good person to yourself and others. As clichรฉ as it may sound, these are the things people will really remember about you - not that you got good marks in every single subject. (Pls note that I'm not saying don't try, as trying is great but everyone has a limit - so basically do your best as that's all you can do!)

So when you eventually collect that envelope, and open it up - take a deep breath, and put it all into perspective. If the grades aren't exactly what you wanted, don't panic, as life will throw you so many more wonderful oppurtunities, which you'll really excel at - far easier than your least favourite subject (maths for me) - after all, Winston Churchill got pretty bad marks at school, and look what he did!

Thanks for reading, and good luck for tomorrow and the future in all your pursuits,

The very (much calmer and) happy blogger

Ps: my godmother's uncle was a Guru and he actually came up with the slogan "don't worry, be happy", so please just follow his advice and SMILE, no matter how hard it may seem at the time - as everything will be alright in the end.

#BLAUGUST - Day 19 - Made in Kensington

Hello dear readers,

Today, I went to Kensington with my friend. Or, more specifically, I went to Kensington Palace, where generations of members of the royal family have lived. It was so beautiful and fascinating (they had an exhibition on fashion in the royal family, featuring some dresses belonging to Diana - which was moving as well as so interesting).

Strolling through the gardens

It was so lovely to just sit back and have a quiet moment to think in such a picturesque setting - especially with exam results looming in a couple of days!!

My friend and I sat by the river and had a ponder, and it was actually really tranquil in its own little way - what with loads of kids running around (which was lovely to see anyway)!

But I so recommend the Palace for a visit. I know some people stay clear of any faint mention of a museum or exhibit - but this one is so family-friendly, with loads of interactive elements and more exciting ways to learn about the stories of all those who lived there. All I can say is, I hope I can find a relationship even half as seemingly perfect as Victoria and Albert's was!

Hope you're all having/had lovely summers.

#BLAUGUST - Day 18 - Improvisation (Gone Wrong)

Hello dear readers,

So I have to admit something: I don't know what to post. Our friends have just left and the time is currently 11:30PM so I only have half an hour to make this post right for the BLAUGUST (necessary capitals) day... I do have other planned posts, but they'd take too long!!

Hmm... I know. I'll give you 10 facts about my day, featuring my many, prolific accomplishments:

1. Got out of bed

2. Gave dog breakfast

3. Tried to get back into bed

4. Unsuccessful as fear of not being proactive (um.. What was I thinking? After all, this is summer.. I joke.. Hehe maybe not) so had shower then breakfast

5. Got ready for day - aka put clothes on and procrastinated by dancing to Pharrell very energetically as what else does one do when home alone?!

6. Finished two Miranda episodes

7. Ate pizza *rupturous applause* aw thanks!

8. Watched more Miranda

9. Wrote thank-you letters for birthday bits

10. Friends came round & had dinner (ft profiteroles ๐Ÿ˜Ž)

11. Ooh how cheeky, I only said I'd do 10!!

12. Phwoarrr I've really done it now

And there you have it!

All I can say is: sorry, this may be classed as the worst blog post EVER.. Many apologies...

Thanks for actually reading it anyway!

#BLAUGUST - Day 17 - Such Fun

Hello dear readers,

Today I had a great day - my accomplishments include (actually, they only really consist of) not wrecking the house whilst home alone and watching a whole series and a half of Miranda. This is my favourite TV programme - but you may be unfortunate  enough to have never heard of it if you don't live in the UK - in which case, I am deeply sorry unto you *sob*.

If you fit into aforementioned category: it's basically a comedy programme about a 30-something (she calls it 'late twenties'!) year-old Miranda (Miranda Hart) and how she copes with the struggles of running a joke/gift shop underneath her flat, having a comparably miniscule best friend called Stevie who takes unusual pleasure in imitating Heather Small, a 'just a friend' called Gary whose chef nature keeps her cake and general (free too - how handy) food needs fulfilled, and who she happens to be irrevocably in love with, and last but not least, an eccentric, posh mother whose life mission is to find her daughter a husband - and she doesn't even care who, where, or how... Just as long as it's in time for her next elite social engagement so she doesn't have to quiver with embarrassment about her daughter's shamefully single status.

It all sounds like a pretty good premise for a television show, doesn't it?! Well, I think it's brilliant. It features regular, now well-loved phrases from the mother such as "such fun!", "what I call..." and the 'weekly laugh' - based, invariably, on a pop song. It's just pure, silly fun and I love it. If you've never watched
an episode, and are in a position where you can (it's a BBC show if that helps you find it!), please, please, give it a go - if you're a fan of classic slapstick, complete with much falling over, fart jokes, and plenty of galloping, then this may be perfect for you.

Just a suggestion... Not really. I am hereby thereby therefore henceforth forcing you to watch it. No pressure or anything...

SUCH FUN!!

The very (what I call) happy blogger

Ps: today I made a new twitter account, but specifically for this blog - it would be lovely if you could check it out and maybe even give it a follow!

Ps2: hahaha that spells out play station 2 hahaha

PS3: even better! *Miranda chuckle*

Sorry.

What I meant to say was that this is my 50th post. Much celebration!

Ps4: ooh so up to date ... Hehe

#BLAUGUST - Day 16 - Topshop & UO Haul

Hello dear readers,

I did tell you previously that I'd make a post about what I bought whilst shopping on my birthday, so here it is! I went into Guildford and accidentally-on-purpose wandered into Topshop and Urban Outfitters, which, as it happens, are opposite each other in the shopping centre - so I couldn't resist paying them both a visit - just out of courtesy, of course...

First stop: Urban Outfitters

(By the way, I apologise in advance about the bad photo quality)

I picked out this top as I loved its coral colour, and thought the robin pattern adorable.

I also got these two mini skirts from UO: one is black velvet *cue song* with sailor-esque popper buttons down the middle, and the other is floaty and navy blue.

Next stop: Topshop

My mum actually insisted that I get this dress: it has a soft cotton top grey part, a black waistband, and    (again!) a floaty skirt (but this time it's white). When I bought all of these clothes, I was thinking of the next two years, as at my school, we don't need to wear uniform anymore when we go into the Sixth Form, but our clothes still have to be fairly smart - so with everything I buy now, I have to picture wearing it with a blazer!

I love the intricate lace patterns on this top - every section is different. I imagine this would look good with a white bandeau bra (probably lacey too) underneath - not at school though!! (Think that much flesh showing would be pushing it a bit)

Incidentally, my aunt also bought this top - we're the same dress size!

OK, so I've seen in her instagrams that Beyoncรฉ has been wearing these types of tops a lot recently, and I admit with no shame whatsoever that that did kind of influence my choice in buying it (ie, queen B has a top like this, I must therefore purchase it)... Um... To my own defence, it's a nice pink colour...

Ps the flowers are a flower crown - me trying to be more artistic with my photography

As this thin jumper (could it be called a jumper?) is long-sleeved, I obviously intend for it to be worn later in the year (I hope that the classic British weather will hold out and make that the case anyway!)

It's really soft, and I like grey clothes for some reason... But it is very cropped, so my plan is to buy a pair of skinny, high-waisted black trousers nearer the time - anyone know a good shop to buy them in?

This is another classic Topshop top - the cami. It's got scalloped edges, and the colour is a subdued, but lovely blue (the camera doesn't do it justice).

So there you have it! There are the results of my birthday haul - some of these were bought by me; some by my family as presents. All I can say is, sorry bank account... I won't be shopping again for a while!

Hope you enjoyed this - it's a new type of post for me, but I quite enjoyed doing it. Please let me know what you think in the comments.

Thanks for reading,

Ps: I fulfilled Topshop's name by getting only tops there... Haha, get it?! Sorry.
